Occupational medical services

The Health Plus Program also provides companies with occupational medical care (company care).

The costs for this service are tax deductible.

Basic rules for occupational medical services:

  • By law, the employer is obliged to secure occupational health and safety protection with regard to any possible risks to life or health associated with the performance of work.
  • The goal is to protect the employees against occupational illnesses and other damage to health associated with the performance of work.
  • The human resources officer works with the physician to secure the occupational medical service.
  • The employees’ condition of health is monitored via a system of medical check-ups included in the occupational medical service.
  • The assessment of an employee’s medical fitness to work is undertaken exclusively by the occupational medical service physician. In cases where the assessment of the work activities requires an expert examination, the physician will send the employee to see the appropriate specialists.
  • Free choice of the physician is not possible in the case of the occupational medical service.
  • Employees are obliged to undergo occupational medical service examinations.

The occupational medical service physician will conclude the examination of the employee’s condition of health during a preventative examination with one of the following unequivocal statements:

  • capable of undertaking the proposed type of work
  • incapable of undertaking the proposed type of work
  • only capable of undertaking the proposed type of work under certain conditions.
  • If the individual is only capable of carrying out the work under certain conditions, the occupational medical service physician will state the results of the preventative examination and the limiting conditions in the “Application for a medical examination” form.
  • • The examining physician may shorten the period of validity of the statement in the case of regular preventive medical examinations with regard to a condition of health which could limit the physical ability of the assessed employee to undertake the work.
  • The occupational medical service physician will inform the appropriate employee, the human resources officer and the head of the department where the employee works of the results of the examination.

Preventative examinations include:

  • entrance examination
  • periodic examination
  • exceptional examinations
  • exit examination
  • the subsequent examination

Obligations of employees:

  • Employees are obliged to undergo preventive medical examinations at the designated occupational medical service facility, and to do so at the times designated in the call to attend the examination issued by the head of department or the human resources officer.
  • Employees must present the designated occupational medical service physician with their medical records from their general practitioner or an excerpt from these records at the latest as of the date of the preventive examination
  • In the case that they perform high risk work, employees are obliged to participate in the entrance and subsequent preventative medical examinations in accordance with a decision of the public health protection body.
